Zodiac plans to hike outlet strength

Ajith K Pillai
Hyderabad, Sept 2: Zodiac Clothing Company, manufacturers of the popular premium menswear brand Zodiac, plans to increase the number of retail outlets to 100 by March next, Mayfair Ltd--one of the divisions of Zodiac Clothing Company--national retail manager Shailesh Upadhyay said.

Upadhyay said that as part of the expansion plan, the company will also open a showroom each in Bangalore in Brigade Road and in Khan market, New Delhi. The company will invest about Rs 20-25 lakh in the new showrooms, he added. Zodiac opened its 75th showroom in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Upadhyay said the company laid great emphasis on the ambience of the interior of its showrooms. For this, the company had roped in top architect and designer Hafeez Contractor for designing the showrooms in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi.

Upadhyay said the company was also keenly looking at men's casualwear in the premium segment, as "it is a big market". Zodiac, he said, offers a premium range of products, with the base price of its shirts atRs 545, and the expensive ones priced at Rs 2,000. Upadhyay ruled out the possibility of his company entering the mid-market range of Rs 250-500, though he admitted that the market in the segment was "very huge in India". Zodiac Company was launching 200 new shirts every 45 days, Upadhayay said. Its market share in the premium segment was in the range of 16-17 per cent.

Over 90 per cent its products were being exported to Europe and the US, he added. Zodiac has the distinction of having the largest chain of exclusive showrooms in the country, he said.
