Vajpayee promises one crore jobs if voted to power

MP Jain
Jaipur, Sept 6: Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, on Monday painted a rosy picture for the economy with the rate of inflation remaining at a record low of 1.3 per cent in the last 17 years. The economy had grown by six per cent and the country had sufficient foreign exchange reserves. Agriculture production also touched a new high last year, he said.

Addressing a public meeting here, Vajpayee said that the exports had also been rising and if the National Democratic Alliance formed the government after the elections, the economy would further grow. He promised a `clean, transparent, effective and responsive'' government to the people, which would work for their welfare. One crore new jobs would be created and an equal number of houses built in the next five years if he became the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that the production of foodgrain would be doubled in the next five years and all the villages in the country would have permanent source of drinking water. Further, primary educationwould be made compulsory with cheap and free medical services available even in remote areas.

Referring to the corruption charges levelled by the Congress against his government and him, Vajpayee said that in his 40 year-long parliamentary career, none had raised a finger against his integrity. He said he wanted to bring even the Prime Minister in the ambit of the Lok Pal, a move that had been opposed by the Congress.

These corruption charged had surprised him as in the Lok Sabha, the Congress had not raised these issues. These charges were frivolous and baseless, he declared. The Prime Minister said that his government was toppled by just one vote in the Lok Sabha, as the Congress was worried over the achievements of his government, he added. He asked the large gathering to vote for the candidates of BJP so that the country could be saved from foreign forces.
