New Delhi, Sept 24: Internet Promoters India Ltd, along with its US-based JV partner InterPacket Group Inc, plans to set up a network of cyber cafes and information access centres throughout India. In this context, the companies have applied to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for an international gateway licence, said InterPacket CEO Jon Gans.
Gans said InterPacket received "overwhelming response" to their high-speed internet access technology -- Espresso -- being demonstrated live at the show. He was confident that the technology solution would usher in a revolution in high-speed internet access in India.
"The Indian market has very positively and favourably responded to this new concept of fast internet access technology and we have been flooded with queries from all parts of the country," said Hans, in a company statement.Espresso is being marketed in India by Internet Promoters India Ltd, in which InterPacket holds 49 per cent equity.
Gans said Espresso is being targeted at different categories of internet service providers (ISPs) and corporates in India to help them ease congestion on their networks, caused by customers attempting to download more data than capacity or inadequate bandwidth, by directly increasing the amount of international downstream bandwidth.
Moreover, Espresso can be installed and made operational in a matter of hours and the customer using this technology does not require to reconfigure his network in any significant manner, Hans said.
Highlighting the main features of Espresso, Hans said that it is fast and easy to operate and provides a single-hop direct satellite link to US internet backbone enabling a customer to receive additional downstream bandwidth ranging from 64 Kbps to 45 Mbps on a receive-only satellite dish and does not require any expensive equipment set-up.
