Steady arrivals of imported sugar from China, Brazil at Calcutta port

Calcutta, Oct 4: A large quantity of imported sugar in several consignments from China and Brazil, arrived at the different points of Calcutta port, such as Saugor anchorage, Diamond Harbour etc alongwith CPT's two dock system during the period from September 24 to 30.

According to Calcutta Port Trust sources, two consignments of sugar totalling 16,000 bags arrived at Calcutta dock during the week of which Lyki from Brazil arrived at Calcutta dock after partially offloaded the same at Haldia dock.

Port sources said, Jiang Ling and Do Man Gang, two Calcutta-bound sugar vessels carrying 15,000 bags, both from China have been waiting at the Sandheads since September 29 and 30 respectively. Jiang Ling, it is known, carried 7,000 bags of sugar for landlocked Nepal.

Besides, another two consignments of sugar totalling 20,400 bags arrived at the Haldia dock during this period. Moreover, Fong Ping from China and Tuna Jina from Brazil carrying 12,000 and 14,000 bags of sugar respectively are currently offloadingsugar in barges at the Saugor anchorage, 50 km upstream from the Sandheads. The arrival of imported logs at the Calcutta dock during the week were 10,340 cubic meter. Apart from that, Nepal imported 62 cars through CDS. Among other commodities, CDS handled 3,000 tonnes of pulses and 3,450 tonnes of rice.

The crude throughput at Haldia oil jetty were excellent with a total of 1,77,000 tonnes compared to 78,000 tonnes only in previous week. However, both the handling of thermal and coking coal were meager. Out of two ballast thermal coal vessels arrived at the Haldia dock for loading the same, one left for Tuticorin and there were no arrival of coking coal.
