Componex/Electronic India 2000, to be held between January 27 to 30, has already got confirmed participation from 90 companies, including 18 foreign firms.
Messe Munchen, which has taken up a 600 sq.mt. area, is expected to bring in another 60 to 70 participants, thus making it the largest electronics and electronic components show in the country, claimed Swaran.
After the tie-up, Componex/Electronic India show will be permanently held in Bangalore, whereas Smart Cards Expo will be permanently located in Mumbai next year onwards, according to him.
Electronics Today has been organising a number of shows on its own so far which includes Infocom from 1990 and Componex since 1995. Last week, it organised a three-day Smart Card Expo '99 in Delhi which saw participation from over 50 companies and brought the focus to newer applications in smart cards.
The company has received a few proposals from foreign private companies to pitch in the smart cards expo from next year, Swaran said. However, these have not yet been evaluated.
The expo saw participation of 105 delegates in two workshops pertaining to technology and security issues in smart cards technology. There were 60 expert speakers, majority of them from abroad.
``This expo succeeded beyond our expectations and we intend to bring out a separate magazine called Smart Cards India in a few months. Till, then, it will be brought out as a special supplement with the Electronics Today,'' said Swaran.
The expo also resulted in formation of a 60-member Smart Cards Forum of India (SCAFI) which will create awareness about smart cards technology and newer applications by holding seminars on specific segments.
It has also instituted Smart Cards Pioneers Awards. The awards for this year went to Aplab, department of posts, the government of Gujarat, BEST Ltd and Dena Bank.
