Coke drive against fake soft-drink makersCola major Coca Cola India has launched a major offensive against manufacturers of spurious soft drinks around the country by arming itself with court injunctions against counterfeits. This is the first time the Indian subsidiary of the US multinational is making a concerted effort to take action against fake soft drink manufacturers around the country, company officials said. Coca Cola India has already got eight injunctions from district courts in Vadodara in Gujarat and Ernakulam in Kerala in the last three weeks against sale of soft drinks under Coca Cola's various trademarks by spurious manufacturers.
Businessman of the century
The Business Barons' multimedia poll to choose the Indian Businessman of the century has received 31,225 votes as on October 4, 1999. The voting is currently proceeding in Business Barons' magazine, its associate publication Banking & Finance, on the Business Barons' group's website (business-leaders.com) and through special voting forms. Dhirubhai Ambani (7,642 votes) has overtaken JRD Tata (7,197 votes) and currently leads the voting which ends on October 21.

Bridgestone ACC milestone
Bridgestone ACC India has reached the one million milestone in sale of passenger radial tyres. This has been achieved within a short span of starting commercial production in March 1998. According to a release issued by the company, Bridgestone is the largest selling brand in the tyre industry. The manufacturing facility is located at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh.
Subex Systems results
The Bangalore-based Subex Systems Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 1.10 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 1999 on a sales of Rs 6.60 crore. Gross profit after interest but before depreciation and taxation of the company was Rs 1.31 crore. During the period, the company's other income stands at Rs 8.81 lakh and total expenditure at Rs 5.21 crore. The company has posted a net profit of Rs 1.56 crore for the half year ended September.
Tata International bags award
Tata International has been recognised as a golden super star trading house by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Government of India. The golden status has been granted to the company in view of its having maintained its status as a super star trading house for three successive terms and in recognition of Tata International's long-standing contribution to exports in accordance with the provisions of the exim policy 1997-2002.
Blue Star
An attempt by employee shareholders of engineering major Blue Star to stall the payment of commission to directors of the company, as a percentage of net profit, has come a cropper. The shareholders' resolution at the annual general meeting resulted in a poll, the outcome of which was overwhelmingly against the resolution.
Welspun appointment
Welspun Syntex board has approved the appointment of CV Kamalkar as director nominee of IFCI in place of RC Pandey, nominee of IFCI. It also approved the allotment of 3,60,000 OFCD of Rs 100 each which could be converted into equity shares at the option of OFCD holder within 18 month from the date allotment at a price as determined under Sebi guidelines and then non-converted part shall remain as non-convertible debenture of Rs 100 each. Forefeiture of 80,00,000 redeembale ND pref shares of Rs 10 each paid up value of Rs 4 crore made for non-payment of the balance allotment money was also approved.
