Abidjan, Oct 10: Exports of semi-finished cocoa products from Ivory Coast in August were slightly down on July but 35 per cent up on August 1998, official port data show. The cumulative total for the 1998/99 season was up 13 percent, reflecting an expansion of local processing. Installed capacity of Ivory Coast's four processing plants currently stands at 240,000 tonnes of beans per year.In August 1998 exports fell by 36 percent to 8,587 tonnes as compared to the previous month. The drop followed a fire at one processing plant, but it was unclear whether that was the sole reason for the drop. This year all plants are running below capacity. Ivory Coast expects 198,072 tonnes of beans to be processed and exported in 1998/99 (Oct-Sept) according to figures provided by the New Caistab commodities supervisory body.
