Lafarge completes acquisition of Tata Steel's cement unit

Calcutta, Nov 1: Lafarge, the global leader in construction materials, formally took over the operations of Tata Steel's cement division on Monday through its subsidiary Lafarge India and also launched Lafarge Cement brand, according to press releases issued by Lafarge and Tata Steel. The move marks Lafarge's entry into the 80-million tonne (mt) local cement market.

The acquisition was made for a business value of Rs 550 crore. The cement operations consist of a 1.1mt clinker plant at Sonadih in Madhya Pradesh and a 1.4mt slag cement grinding plant at Jojobera in Bihar.

Coinciding with the takeover, Lafarge also launched the Lafarge Cement brand in the Indian market.
