Mumbai, Nov 1: IF Indian professionals do not add value to the computer business, China and Phillipines will overtake us in terms of the gains accrued from the information technology revolution, said Mahindra & Mahindra managing director Anand Mahindra.Speaking at the annual programme organised by Computer Society of India here on Monday, he said India should strive to be major IT solutions provider otherwise the country will create "intellectual feudalism" where professionals will continue to provide only services.
There is a whole lot of difference between the information revolution happening in India and the one that has caught up in the West. The differences would be seen in the implications and consequences of the IT revolution, he said.
Though IT has become a mantra in urban areas, it still has not precolated down to the rural areas, he added.
"As things stand, I do not see any chance of IT becoming a useful tool for villagers," he said.
Indian professionals can provide low-cost technology and create profit, he said adding that Bangaldesh is using mobile phone as a powerful weapon for enriching the knowledge base of farmers.
Likewise, information technology can be used to provide lot of help to farmers in the country.
