Tata Teleservices first to launch Centrix services to replace EPABX

R Ravichandran
Hyderabad, Nov 4: Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL), the basic services provider for Andhra Pradesh, has become the first private operator in the country to launch Centrex services here on Thursday. The new product is part of the Lucent Technologies Inc, US.

Centrex (central exchange) is a productivity enhancement tool for customers to utilise facilities similar to those by an EPABX, while retaining the benefits of a direct line, which effectively replaces EPABX.

N Srinath, chief operating officer, TTL, said that Centrex service provides the customers immense benefits who were so far dependent on EPABXs to meet their internal telecom needs. Initially, the service would be offered to the wireline customers only.

He said the benefits of the Centrex service that it needs only lower investment, directory number for each line which provides direct access, quick and easy reach, enhancing value for users; direct external access for each Centrex line; continuously scalable and upgradable; over-the-phone provisioning of features; access to all new TTL features, which are not in EPABX system.

All lines go directly from TTL's main switch to the customer, eliminating the intermediate EPABX and related equipment and the costs. The annual operating cost will come down as there is maintenance cost. The service provides a single window to the customer for all his communication needs at nominal costs, he added.
