New Delhi, Nov 5: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has welcomed the Cabinet clearance for the information technology bill and the proposal to introduce the bill in the winter session of Parliament. The IT bill passage would give tremendous boost and facilitate the growth and development of electronic commerce in India, said CII. The specific provisions relating to making typical signature legally acceptable and the provision for setting up of certifying authorities would give both business and individual consumers greater confidence to transact business on the web.
A CII survey on usage of electronic commerce and industry had identified this as one of the impediments in using the internet to buy goods for trade. Similarly, the acceptance of computer printouts and other relevant computer outputs under the Indian Evidence Act of 1872 would provide the necessary encouragement to increase user of computers and IT in industry and also by individuals. The proposed amendments to the Bankers Book Evidence Act and the RBI Act of 1934 will further strengthen this.
