Telstra in data services venture in China

Singapore, Nov 15: Australia's largest listed company Telstra Corp said on Monday that it has signed a pact with China's largest data networking firm for foreign access to data services in the world's most populous nation. The MoU was signed this week with China's Ji Tong Communications Co Ltd, Telstra, one of the world's largest communication companies, said in a statement issued in Singapore.

The pact allows Telstra, through its Hong Kong subsidiary, to provide Ji Tong's so-called frame relay network services to the Australian firm's customers outside China. "There is a strong demand for multinational companies for a single point of contact into China for their communications needs and this agreement enables Telstra to deliver that," Warwick Pye, Telstra's managing director for Greater China, said in the statement. --AFP
