Mumbai, Nov 15: Some of the world leaders in cotton production, processing, research, marketing and by-product utilisation would come together during an international seminar on `Cotton and its Utilisation in the 21st Century' to be held on December 11 and 12.The seminar would coincide with the platinum jubilee of the Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (Circot) of Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and silver jubilee of Indian society for cotton improvement, according to the director of Circot, KR Krishna Iyer. Effective dialogue is also expected with those concerned with policy planning and implementation, Iyer said.
Review of the current status of technologies related to production and post-harvest processing of cotton are expected to culminate in the preparation of a performance-oriented action plan that will focus on economically viable technologies for the effective use of cotton, he said.
Cotton continues to enjoy a pre-eminent position among all the cash crops in the country as it is the principal raw material for a flourishing textile industry.
