Centre to set up panel for sick state-run units

Ravi Kapoor
New Delhi, Nov 15: The government will set up a committee of secretaries to expedite the revival plans of sick PSUs under the purview of the ministry of heavy industry and public sector undertakings.

The panel is also likely to take a decision regarding the extension of the voluntary separation scheme (VSS) for the more than 5,000 employees in sick units, according to official sources. The ministry has identified terminally sick PSUs. The application of the VSS to the employees of these undertakings has been approved by the government.

Out of the 48 companies under the ministry of heavy industry and PSUs, 32 are loss-making.
