Samsung awarded $200m refinery deal
South Korea's Samsung Engineering Co said in Seoul on Monday that it had won a $200-million contract to expand an oil refinery in India. The contract, awarded by Indian Oil Corporation, calls for increasing the capacity of the refinery in Bihar from the present 4.2 million tonnes to six million tonnes a year, it said. Samsung engineering, a unit of the Samsung group, South Korea's second largest conglomerate, plans to finish the expansion work by October, 2001.

Major part of Orissa power transmission lines restored
Power Grid Corporation on Monday said it had restored 1000 circuit kms of transmission lines in cyclone-ravaged Orissa. The restored transmission lines would have capacity tocarry about 550mw to 600mw of power to the state, PGCIL chairman and managing director RP Singh told reporters in New Delhi. Powergrid along with Gridco had already restored the transmisson lines of 132kv in most of the cities including Jagatsingh-Cuttack and Jajpur-Kendrapara-Paradip ensuring power supply to Kendrapara and Pattamundai, Singh said. "The corporation board had also decided that amount spend for the restoration work at Orissa would not be charged by the company," he said.

Aviation ministry to waive handling charges on relief material
In an effort to quicken relief work for the cyclone-hit people of Orissa, the civil aviation ministry has decided to waive ground handling charges by Air India and Indian Airlines flights carrying relief material for Orissa. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued instructions for the waiver of landing and other charges for the use of airport facilities carrying relief materials, an official press release said. Ground handling charges by Air India and Indian Airlines are being waived to the non-governmental organisations or others who are bringing in relief supplies. Indian airlines has already been carrying out free of cost services in transporting the relief material to Bhubaneswar.

India keen on investing in UAE energy sector
Indian investors are interested in joint ventures with UAE in the field of energy, information technology (it) and banking, looking at the huge potential market here, senior official of Dubai Business Chamber has said. A number of joint ventre projects with India and China, two of the biggest trading partners of UAE, are being chalked out by the Dubai Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) following a recent visit to the two countries by a high level delegation, Ahmed Saif Belhasa, a DCCI board member said in Dubai. "The Indian investors are mainly interested in the energy sector as they anticipated the country's demand to shoot up in the near future," he told reporters. He said another area of cooperation with India was in it products and in small and medium scale industries.
