Girish Chadha
New Delhi, Nov 25: Industry will present an India travel and tourism action plan to the Indian government for sustainable development and improving the infrastructure network to give a fillip to employment, incomes and growth.

The action plan will be formulated at a two-day international conclave on tourism for sustainable development to be held on December 10, said Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) president KP Singh.

The conclave will bring together top travel professionals, eminent tourism industry experts and policy makers from across the world who will strive to evolve strategies for making India the most attractive tourist destination. The conclave is being organised by Assocham in collaboration with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and AT Kearney.

Eminent foreign industry leaders including Virgin group of companies and Virgin Atlantic Airways chairman Richard Branson, Earth Council Institute, Canada, chairman Maurice Strong, former tourism minister of Thailand KhunPitak, WTTC president Jean Claude Baumgarten, and immediate past president of WTTC Geoffrey Lipman will participate in the conclave.

Singh said the conclave will chart the course for Indian tourism in the new millennium and the strategies thrown up by the conclave are expected to fuel a sustained eight-10 per cent GDP growth that Indian desperately needs to achieve during the next 10-15 years.
