Tax shortfall
The latest data on tax collections shows that inflows during April to November have risen by 14.41 per cent, compared to the same period of last year. That's a substantial improvement, considering that tax revenue for the first half of the year was higher by only 12 per cent, on a y-o-y basis.

Exports recover
After the fall (by 4%) in 98-99, this year's 10% export growth target attracted much scepticism. But exports this October were up 22% over October 1998; and this boosted the export-growth rate for April-October to 10 %.
