Narad goes online
The first thought that crosses ones mind is `what an odd name for a website. Why Narad?' If you read their explanation, it is very apt. The site states this - Narad is the prototype of the networked Indian. He carried word (tales, claim his critics) from one place to another, brokered deals, made peace, started fights and did everything else possible through the power of human communication. He was a source of immense information and ever generous with his time loved music and the arts and was more erudite than most. A lot of thought has gone behind the name, you must agree. Launched by Net Consult India, Narad Online has several features. News updates are almost in real time, through the day. pA unique section on this site is `You have news?' If you need something to report, some local news, this is where you can play reporter. Live stock tickers from both the Mumbai Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, instant polls, analysis and comments on latest developments and directory of Indian sites is also included.
In addition, there are all the other regular sections such as Bollywood (interviews, star fashion, on location box office buzz, etc), religions, festivals, jokes, travel, Indian mythology, weather, milestones, links to nationwide telephone directories, and of course free Web-based Narad mail.

A dating service for cos
Corpfin.com has unveiled a service to let companies raise private equity online - in effect, an online dating service for companies. The service will put investors together with smaller publicly-traded companies trying to raise $2 million to $20 million equity through private placements, transactions too small to get the attention of big investment banks. Like a dating service, it will make the introduction, but what the customers do is up to them. Because private equity deals usually require complex negotiations and due diligence by lawyers and accountants, Corpfin.com doesn't expect the transactions to be completed online, but rather to move offline after the initial contacts are made, though it will let companies post documentation and hold conferences online.
To preserve privacy, it won't post transaction information in a public location. Instead, it will give issuers a list of buyers interested in investments of specific size or type, and the issuers will choose whom to contact. The targeted buyers are money managers such as insurance companies and private-equity funds, along with wealthy individuals.
