India and UK sign statement on sustainable transport
India and UK on Monday signed a statement of cooperation on sustainable transport. The move aims at increasing bilateral cooperation in the areas of fuel efficiency, cleaner fuels, integrated transport issues, traffic planning and management. The statement was signed by minister of environment and forest TR Baalu and deputy prime minister of UK John Prescott in New Delhi.Both the countries plan to identify projects for collaboration between institutions. The projects will focus on transfer of technology, exchange of experiences about cleaner fuel and technologies and awareness building on sustainable transport issues. According to the statement, an effective inspection and maintenance system will help in the maintenance of emission standards.
Largest induction motor from Bhel
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has designed and developed the country's largest capacity induction motor. It has supplied the motor to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). According to an offical release issued in New Delhi on Monday, the large capacity induction motors were imported earlier. The pressurised enclosed 4,070-KW capacity squirrel cage induction motor has been developed, manufactured, tested and supplied by Bhel's Bhopal plant. The motor has been successfully tested in the presence of BPCL and their consultants, Engineers India Ltd, says the Bhel release.
ISO 9002 for Kochi ship yard
The Kochi naval ship repair yard has been accorded ISO 9002 standard certification. The yard engaged in repairs, refits and maintenance of ships and craft including naval, coast guard and commercial vessels, is equipped with excellent infrastructure capable of handling a multitude of engineering tasks and repairs of complex electronic equipment, an official release said on Monday.
Russia keen on methane crystal sector
Russia is keen to collaborate with India on a high-tech critical project to exploit the hitherto untapped abundant reserves of methane crystals entrapped in the seabed to tide over the energy crisis in the world. These energy crystals provide thousands of times more energy than the resources available on the ground in meeting the total energy needs of the world, scientists participating in the 9th session of Indo-Russian joint council of integrated long term programme of cooperation in science and technology said.
MP seeks Rs 1788cr irrigation aid
Four proposals seeking Rs 1788 crore assistance from the World Bank for the improvement, rehabilitation and modernisation of various irrigation schemes in Madhya Pradesh have been sent to the Centre for approval. State water resources minister Ramchandra Singhdeo met his Union counterpart CP Thakur in Delhi recently and urged him to take urgent action.
