Silver continues to rise on seasonal demand

Mumbai, December 16: Both the precious metals ruled firm on the bullion market here today.Silver .999 lifted up by Rs 15 at Rs 8,120 per kg. Silver .916 was rose by Rs 5 at Rs 8,000 per kg. Stray industrial and seasonal demand pushed prices upward as tight supplies kept offerings limited.

Traders reported hardly 140/150 kg of silver changed hands today. Delhi market remained subdued. In the global market the white metal slid from $5.19 to $5.16 per ounce, it was learnt.

Meanwhile standard gold closed steady at Rs 4,430 per 10gm. so was gold .22 caraet at Rs 4,100 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) recovered by Rs 50 at Rs 51,800 per piece on seasonal buying interest. In the global market gold ruled quiet at $280.15 per ounce.

Castor futures firm
Groundut oil ruled quiet at the improved level on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil on the other hand rallied further on stray overseas enquiries coupled with lower than expected new crop supplies and speculative trading in the forward market.

Groundnut oil held at Rs 370 per 10 kg. Supplies were tight but demand was slack and undercurrent remained firm at the close on news that Centre may hike import duty on edible oils soon, according to market sources. In Rajkot prices placed steady at Rs 595/600 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil looked up by Rs 2 at Rs 212 per 10 kg amidst restricted offerings by importers. In the global market palm oil ruled steady at $360/362.50 per tonne, it was learnt.

Castor oil closed a rupee up at Rs 376/388 per 10 kg. Castorseed ready were up by Rs 5 at Rs 1724/1730 per quintal in sympathy.

In the future section castorseed March delivery shot up from Rs 1,730 to Rs 1,746 per quintal on brisk bull loading. There was no trading in the maturing December delivery today. In Ahmedabad castorseed February delivery quoted firm at Rs 1,703 and April delivery at Rs 1,755 per quintal.

Castorseed spot delivery finished higher at Rs 330/335 per 20 kg and castor oil quoted at Rs 364/365 per 10 kg in Gujarat.

Sugar edges up
A slightly better trend prevailed in sugar ex-octroi checkpost while trading in Vashi remained at a standstill as the indefinite strike by the mathadi workers entered the sixth day.

In sympathy with the trend in tenders, ex-octroi checkpost rates of sugar moved up by Rs 5 a quintal. M-30 were placed at Rs 1415-1435 and S-30 at Rs 1390-1405.

In tenders, with similar rise, the price was indicated at Rs 1365-1375 and at Rs 1345-1355 respectively.

Cotton ends higher
Cotton market continued to present an improved stance under the lead of Punjab zone.

Changed sentiment continued to influence the ternd in Punjab zone as the price of most of the items gained Rs 15 to 20 a maund afresh. Arrivals in Punjab zone were comprised of 3500 bales of Bengal Deshi and 12,000 bales of J-34. Bengal Deshi roller-ginned Punjab ruled at Rs 1080-1150, Haryana at Rs 1105-1110 and Rajasthan at Rs 1130-1150 spot. J-34 saw-ginned good average Punjab were placed at Rs 1400-1470, Haryana at Rs 1350-1400 and Rajasthan at Rs 1340-1380. Cart selected ruled at Rs 1535-1565, at Rs 1400-1465 and at Rs 1400 respectively. J-34 roller-ginned good average Haryana were quoted at Rs 1300-1340 and Rajasthan at Rs 1330-1350.

V-797 were up by Rs 100 as old ruled at Rs 12,000-12,300. Wagad were mentioned at Rs 11,500-11,600 and Kalan-ginned at Rs 11,000-11,100. Sanker were maintained in the range of Rs 16,000-18,300.

New york ruled easy. March shed 0.42 cents at 49.71, May 0.33 cents at 51.08, July 0.22 at 52.33 and October 0.15 at 53.75 cents.

Yarn quiet
Viscose and nylons ruled quietly steady on the yarn market.

Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn ruled at Rs 195, 120dn at Rs 205, 100dn at Rs 220 and 75dn at Rs 252 a kg. 120dn dull cones were on offer at Rs 220.

Nylon yarn 15/1/0dn Sreelon ruled at Rs 288. Gujnil 20/1/0dn and 30/1/0dn were traded at Rs 295 and at Rs 310 respectively. 111/24/0dn ruled at Rs 174.

Grains static
A quietly steady condition prevailed in Vashi grains market as the activity remained disrupted.

Wheat milling indigenous were placed at Rs 750-760, north Gujarat Sonaklyan at Rs 800-811, Tukadi at Rs 830-840 and 496 at Rs 850-875. Rice Perimal new ruled at Rs 950-975.

Among pulses, green peas USA Rumba/Heart were placed at Rs 1400 and Canadian at Rs 1081-1085. Moong Myanmar were on offer at Rs 1525-1700 and Chinese at Rs 1700-1800.
