Epson likely to set up software design centre

Chennai, Dec 16: Epson India, the Indian arm of Epson Singapore Pte Ltd, is likely to open a software design centre in India to cash in on the nation's IT resources as part of its future plans. Speaking at a launch function of a whole new range of digital printers, scanners, projectors etc, Sr country manager, Epson India, Paramjit Puri, said that Epson had not finalised plans in this direction but was actively considering the same. A decision would be known in six months.India was an important market for Epson where its market share in inkjet printers was expected to grow from 14 per cent last year to 22 per cent by March 2000. The next year it would go to 30 per cent, he said. The company is planning to expand its distribution network and enter D-grade cities. The turnover this fiscal is expected to be Rs 140 crore. This would grow to Rs 300 crore in 2001-2002. Epson is also spearheading a research and development programme with Xerox and Sun Microsystems to bring in convergence technology products.
