Gold recovers, silver moves in narrow range

Mumbai, Jan 7: Gold prices recovered from the lower level while silver movedin a narrow range and finished on a steady note on the bullion market heretoday.

Standard gold closed Rs 10 higher at Rs 4,470 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat wasup by same margin at Rs 4,135 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.)lifted by Rs 100 at Rs 52,300 per piece. Physical demand for gold was slowbut eased supplies and news of recovery in the global market arrested freshofferings at lower level in the city market. In the global market goldclimbed from $280.50 to $282.25 per ounce.

Meanwhile silver finished quiet at Rs 8,090 per kg. So was .916 at Rs 7,960per kg. amidst nominal trading. Undercurrent of the market however remainedweak on arrivals of 1500/2000 kg of silver coupled with subdued overseasadvices. In the kerb trading, silver was quoted lower at Rs 8,050 per kg. Inthe overseas market prices slid from $5.15 to $5.13 per ounce.

G'nut oil edges up
Uptrend in groundnut oil prices continued on the oil,oilseeds market heretoday. Castorseed and its oil too ruled firm in the ready delivery. Pricessuffered losses in the forward market after initial rally, dealers said.

Groundnut oil looked up by a rupee to Rs 385 per 10 kg. Supplies wererestricted but demand was dull. In Rajkot groundnut oil ruled easy at Rs605/607 per 15 kg.

Imported palm oil maintained at Rs.212 per 10 kg in absence of freshofferings. Offtake were at a low ebb during the day. Malaysian palm oilmarket remained closed on account of muslim festival and will reopen only onTuesday, it was learnt.

Meanwhile castor oil closed a rupee up at Rs 350/362 per 10 kg on straycovering by shippers. Castorseed ready moved up by Rs 5 at Rs 1594/1600 perquintal in sympathy.

In the futures section castorseed March delivery commenced higher from Rs1,604 to Rs 1,626 but later on bull unloading pulled down prices lower at Rs1,602 per quintal at the close of the session, floor sources said.

In Ahmedabad February delivery was placed at Rs 1,583 and settled down at Rs1,563 per quintal. April delivery moved to Rs 1608 per quintal. Dailyarrivals of castorseed in Gujarat were unchanged at 30000/35000 bags.In the international castor oil future marjket, February delivery held at Rs367 while April delivery quoted at Rs 372 per 10 kg.

Yarn dull
A dull condition continued on the yarn market.Polyester yarn grey firstquality of medium-sized units 80dn roto ruled at Rs 95-96, weft at Rs 92-93,micro roto at Rs 103-104, 150dn weft at Rs 80-81 and single roto at Rs 81-82.Nylon yarn Gujnil 20/1/0dn ruled at Rs 295, 30/1/0dn at R 310 and 111/24/0dnat Rs 174.

Grains static
A steady condition was noticed on the grains market. Demand continued to bemoderate.

Wheat MP 147 and Sarbati were traded at Rs 875-950 and at Rs 950-1300 aquintal respectively. North Gujarat Sonaklyan were on offer at Rs 790-811and Tukadi at Rs 825-851.

Rice Perimal were placed at Rs 950-1150 while superior quality fetched Rs1250-1300.

Among pulses, green peas Canada slumped from Rs 1075-1081 to Rs 1000following an arrival of a ship. USA Rumba/Heart at Rs 1350-1375 were steadyon tight supply. Other pusles were static. Tur Myanmar were placed at Rs1250-1300, Malawi at Rs 1500-1600 and Kenya/Tanzania at Rs 1600-1650. UradMyanmar were on offer at Rs 1900-1925.

Cotton steady
A steady trend prevailed on the cotton market.V-797 old ruled at Rs11,800-12,200 a candy. New ready were placed at Rs 11,600-11,800. Sankerruled in the range of Rs 16,000-18,200.

Bengal Deshi were on offer at Rs 1025-1090, J-34 saw-ginned good average atRs 1355-1510, cart selected at Rs 1385-1575 and roller-ginned good averageat Rs 1325-1340 a maund.

In futures trading remained dull. New York price looked up. March at 52.08,May at 53.36 and July at 54.70 gained 0.53 to 0.58 cents. October improvedby 0.10 at 56.10 cents.

Sugar declines
A dull-to-easy condtion prevailed on the sugar market.

High levels in ex-godown rates for average quality were trimmed followingimproved arrivals. M-30 declined from Rs 1450-1520 to Rs 1435-1520. S-30were placed at Rs 1390-1455 as against Rs 1410-1453.

Ex-octroi checkpost, the price ruled unchanged at Rs 1405-1425 and at Rs1380-1395 respectively.In tenders, too, static condition was in evidence.M-30 were indicated at Rs 1355-1375 and S-30 at Rs 1335-1345 in Kolhapurline.
