Gujarat farmer to train Israel ryots
JANUARY 19: With his proven achievements, Naranbhai Gadhvi, a progressive farmer of Kutch district of Gujarat, will now train farmers and agro-scientists of Israel for a year. A resident of a hamlet called Jharpara under Mundra taluka of the arid district bordering Pakistan, Gadhvi, has been invited by the Israeli government to impart training in date farming. In his small farm of three acres, he braved the 1998 cyclone that ravaged Kutch district and replanted most of date trees that had been uprooted by the natural calamity.Using the guidance and training he got from Gujarat's agro-scientists, the small farmer achieved big feats by using tissue culture, grafting and putting scrap borewell equipment to reuse, an official report said. Gadhvi refrained from using any chemical fertiliser. Twelve years ago, he had pioneered drip irrigation in this area at a time when this technique was relatively unknown, the report added.
