New Delhi, Jan 19: NIIT and HOPE will set up 60 passenger information kiosks for tourism sector at major airports, railway stations, bus terminals and historical sites as part of the tourism ministry's plan for setting up a national information grid.The touch-screen-based kiosks will initially be set up in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Calcutta and then taken to other tourist destinations.While 40 kiosks will be used for provision of general information and 20 multimedia based to facilitate online information to both tourists and tourism industry regarding like location of tourism spots, point-to-point taxi fares, road maps, bus routes and details of trains and flights.
The work on the project is expected to start soon.``A sample of this tourist facilitation will be put up at the Pragati Maidan here when the third India international tourism expo and mart is held from January 22 to 24. Both the companies would have brief modules on India and detailed modules on the city it is placed in'' new director general of tourism, Atul Sinha said at a press conference on Wednesday.
