SAIL's move for coking coal imports
JANUARY 19: Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has started testing coking coal samples from several overseas companies as a prelude to source coking coal from outside. The company had earlier floated a global tender for supplying freshly-mined prime quality' low ash hard coking coal for blending with domestic coal, a SAIL official said. SAIL imports about six million tonnes of hard coking coal annually."In response to a recent global tender, 16 new overseas coal producers submitted applications and samples for pre-qualification as suppliers of freshly mined prime quality washed and unwashed hard coking coal," K Chandra, in-charge of coal import group of SAIL said.
