New Delhi, Jan 19: US-based Network Associates Inc (NAI) has proposed to Indian capital market regulator SEBI and National Stock Exchange (NSE) to provide software that would protect investors against virus and hackers during internet trading on the Indian bourses."We have one of the best softwares to protect business transactions in the net with the highest level of protection of corporate data assets. We are confident that Indian capital markets would be rid of all possible sabotage, espionage and hackers after installation of PGP Total Network Security,'' Farokh Karani Lam, country manager of NAI told PTI.
"With the lifting of encryption restrictions in US last week, the company will now be able to export the PGP TNS software to India," Lam said adding the company would be holding further talks with SEBI later this week.
Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) Total Network Security is NAI's software product which automates the critical corporate task of protecting digital property, both locally and across intranets, extranets and the public internet, he said.
The $980 million NAI is the leading player in the security and anti-virus software with 75 per cent market share in India, Lam said.
Installation of software to protect investors is key as the country's bourses are gearing up for internet trading with SEBI giving final touches to regulations on the net trading.
Major stock exchanges like NSE and BSE have already announced plans to make necessary changes in their trading software to allow the members to trade through the internet. NAI will be exporting their 128 bits encryption product from US, Which would protect Indian investors from hackers and different viruses as and when trading on the net starts on a full-fledged manner.
Lam said India would be a significant market for NAI and the company was planning to make the country its hub for the South Asian region. To begin with, NAI will set up a liaison office in Mumbai later this month and has tied up with software giants like NIIT, Wipro, Infotech Group and Godrej Pacific Technologies as their channel partners in India and the region."We have recently tied up with the Gujarat-based internet service provider, Willnet for implementation of firewall and intrusion detection software,'' he said. Firewall is a security software used to detect hackers and viruses on the net.
NAI has about 1600 employees and has presence in over 65 countries. Its worldwide clients include IBM, Microsoft, Novell, Compaq, Cisco Systems and America Online among others.
