L&T Information Technology eyes buyouts

K Sreedevi
Chennai, Jan 22: Joining the acquisition bandwagon of infotech companies, the Mumbai-based L&T Information Technology Ltd (LTITL) has set its eyes on companies operating in the areas of healthcare, financial services, telecom and e-commerce. Declining to reveal any further details on the acquisition plan, chief executive Achyut S Godbole, said the company is currently examining a couple of proposals. LTITL has earmarked about $10 to $15 million for this purpose, he added.

LTITL is also keen on exploring the IPO route for funds. But no plans on the issue size and timing have been firmed up, he said. Announcing the setting up of a dedicated offshore development centre for Samsung, Godbole said that the new centre in Bangalore will focus on developing latest technologies for Samsung in the areas of ATM switches, mobile IP (Internet protocol) and broad band access network. Outsourcing software development is an integral part of the globalisation drive of Samsung and the Indian centre will be an extension of theR&D set up of Samsung in Korea, said Samsung director -- data networks, Byung Chang Kang.

Samsung already has a SDC in Bangalore operating in the name of Samsung India Software Operations (SISO). Clarifying that SISO would pose no competition with ODC, Gye Chool Kim, managing director of SISO said that his company will be engaged in developing long-term projects while the Indian ODC will handle all short-term assignments.
