Web-wise agencies get interactive

Lalitha Srinivasan
Mumbai, Feb 25: It smells like boom time again for Indian advertising. With most clients jumping onto the dot.com bandwagon, Web-wise agencies-like TBWA Anthem, Trikaya Grey, Euro RSCG-are quickly catching on to the wave. In a bid to cater to the new media needs of its clients, Delhi-based TBWA Anthem Pvt Ltd has expanded its interactive media division by opening two branches in Mumbai and Chennai. The Rs 57-crore agency has also roped in a Net hotshot, Pradipto Basu, to head its Mumbai division.

Says Manosh H Pulimootil, systems director, TBWA Anthem: ``Our main thrust will be to meet the evolving needs of Mumbai-based clients now. In April 2000, we will be launching two portals for two of our new clients.'' For strategic reasons, Pulimootil is reluctant to reveal the names of his new clients.

Realising the significance of an interactive division, Anthem had set up- TBWA Anthem-Interactive Media in 1995. Currently, the agency handles big accounts which include Cyberastro.com, icleo.com, Indiaproperty.com, Surya Group and Sony. ``With our in-house infrastructure, sources and expertise, we hope to offer innovative services to our clients,'' says Basu. Yet another Indian advertising agency Trikaya Grey has ambitious plans to woo Net clients in India.

``We plan to set up a full-fledged company - Trikay Grey Interactive- in a bid to cater to the needs of Web clients very soon,'' announces Nirvik Singh, chief executive officer, Trikaya Grey.

According to Singh, Trikaya has launched its interactive operations in 1997. ``For over two years, we were back-room providers for our parent company Grey, which is one of the largest interactive agencies across the globe. With the Indian advertising industry waking up to the Net, we have already bagged a host of new accounts,'' adds Singh.

With Rs 2 crore online billing Euro-RSCG Interactive, a division of Euro RSCG is considered a lead player in this field. Says Suman Srivatsava, senior vice president, Euro RSCG: ``We set up our interactive division in September 1999. Within a short span of time, we are way ahead of others in the game. We have made a lot of investments for this division. Our vision is to offer integrated online and offline communication solutions to our clients. Currently, Euro has over 18 dot com accounts in its kitty.
