Global diamond meet at Raipur A 10-day world meet on diamond and gemstones, including an international conference, trade fair and field workshops, will be organised in Raipur in November next year. An official spokesman said on Thursday that the three-day international conference on diamond and gemstones and gemmological trade fair will be organised here from November 14, 2001. The conference jointly organised by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the International Liaison Group on diamond, Kimberlites and related ultramafites, the Geology and Mining Directorate of Madhya Pradesh and Government Engineering College, Kraipur, will be inaugurated by noted scientist APJ Abdul Kalam. The spokesman said this was the first time that such a combined conference was being organised in the country.Technology in cement industry The chairman and managing director (CMD) of Madras Cements Ltd, PR Ramasubrahamaneya Rajha on Friday emphasised the need to upgrade technology in cement industry. In his inaugural address at the two-day national seminar on `Energy Efficient Technologies in Cement Industry', he said the utilisation of the appropriate technologies, he claimed. The seminar was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), southern region. Steep rise in castor oil prices In Mumbai, prices of castor oil and castorseeds shot up on the oilseeds market here on Friday due to poor supply. Elsewhere, groundnut oil declined on poor demand and imported palm oil improved on better overseas advices. Trading in the futures market continued to remain suspended for the fourth consecutive day on Friday following poor attendance due to the rail traffic disruption in the Harbour Line of the Central Railway, dealers said. In the industrial sector, castor oil commercial shot up by Rs 12 to close at Rs 382 from Thursday's close of Rs 370.
