PUNE, MATCH 6: www.krishiworld.com, India's first portal on agriculture, went live on March 3 when the Baramati baron clicked the mouse. Real time information for farmers hitherto excluded from the Net revolution, says Vijay Dalwani, director of Cyberdyne Solutions India, the creator of the portal. But who will access the site and how many Indian farmers have access to a computer? The Cyberdyne team is non-plussed. Net is catching up they say. Techno-savvy grape growers in Nashik and cane growers in Baramati are already using the Net for finding out international prices and e-mailing their potential customers.
"Computers have reached every district and taluka and it wont be long before farmers use the Net too," says Dalwani. Cyberdyne is hoping the tie up between Sam Pitroda's WorldTel and state governments in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for providing Net connectivity would be completed and make their site more accessible. The site will be available in 11 Indian languages. For now, it will be available only in English and Marathi.
Gujrati and Hindi language versions will be up soon while the remaining languages will be accessible in six months. A panel of agriculture experts who have worked on creating the site and would be available on the Net to advice farmers or respond to queries. The site contains information on techniques, latest technologies, information on seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, implements, trade fairs, poultry, animal husbandry, fishing, government schemes and subsidies and support services, daily updates on prices from various markets. For regular weather reports the companyis tying up with a foreign agency.
The project is expected to cost around Rs 20 crore. Cyberdyne has been promoted by the Rewale group which is into auto components and engineering in the SME segment and is making forays into the IT business.
