Sparsh to go in for Rs 50cr venture capital funding

HYDERABAD, MARCH 6: Sparsh Communications Ltd, which runs the Rs 40-crore Highway Automation System, has decided to go in for Rs 50 crore venture capital funding to set up a hub, expand its kiosks network and developing B2B, B2C portals.

Leading consulting firm Ernst & Young has been assigned to do valuation of the company for this purpose, Anjana Sanghi, chairman and managing director, Sparsh Communications said. "We will finalise the name by April-end and the funder will be offered stakeholding in the company, Anjana told reporters here on Monday.

The funds are being raised to part finance setting up of a hub, expanding total kiosks to 5,000 from 400, more e-commerce solution portals and to interface the networks with Internet, she said.

The company has also launched a women's portal Sparshbazaar.com here on Monday. This extensive site covers health information sections, nutrition, food and cookery, beauty and fashion, religion, entertainment, home decor, interiors, books, art and culture, etc.

Sparsh, which has a strong infrastructure network in the country, wants to become a leading player in the IT and web field by focussing on value-added services, she said.

The company has introduced few value added services such as Track It Asset Management System, Fleet Management System, Library Information System, Question Paper Setter, Enterprise Resource Planning Software and Students Performance Information System.

The existing Highway Automation System (HAS) has been further upgraded with added features like Electronic Freight Transfer System, HASmail, HAS Services, according to Anjana Sanghi. Sparsh had launched HAS earlier to specifically monitor vehicles playing on the highways linked with kiosks set up all over India through VSAT terminals, which provide data on vehicle position, timings of arrival, location, accidents if any, etc.
