PlanetSaffron.com seeks venture capital funds for global ad push

Priya Srinivasan
Mumbai, March 6: A vertical portal for those interested in `alternative lifestyles', PlanetSaffron.com, will be seeking venture funds upwards of Rs 25 crore in the next few weeks and will concede a minority stake in the company for this amount.

"We need to look at the kind of funding that will allow us to launch a global advertising campaign" says Dinesh Vazirani, co-founder, PlanetSaffron. "Our audience is mostly in the US and Europe". The adspend is already in excess of about Rs 20 lakh at this point according to Vazirani.PlanetSaffron.com is also in the process of launching a slew of sites ranging from holistic healing to contemporary Indian art. While Saffronsoul, the holistic healing site was up a couple of weeks ago, SaffornArt goes live this week. There are at least another four in the pipeline, details of which the promoters want to keep under wraps for the moment.

Saffronsoul is in the process of tying up with major Indian brands in the ayurvedic/herbal dietary supplements and cosmetics segments which will be sold online along with books and CDs on holistic healing. While this comprises the B2C strategy for Saffronsoul, the site is also looking at building a community of holistic healing professionals across the world whether they practice alternate medicine or allopathy, so that there is a platform for professional exchanges between them. "We will have a directory of professionals to whom you can address queries as well" says Minal Vazirani, co-founder, Planetsaffron. Saffronart which will be launched this week will attempt to sell Indian contemporary art on line.

The site has tied up with some of the country's biggest names among art galleries to exclusively sell their paintings online according to Dinesh Vazirani. "We will have about 400 works on sale when the site goes online this week" he adds.
