New Delhi, March 10: US technology major -- iasiaworks -- said on Friday that it planned to acquire Indian Internet companies and has earmarked up to $10 million in the first phase.Headquartered in the Silicon Valley, iasiaworks will acquire Internet solutions providers, besides setting up data centres in India. The company is holding talks with eight internet majors including some leading Internet Service Providers (ISPs), a senior company official said.
"Iasiaworks is keenly eyeing India for acquisitions for setting up data centres as well as providing Internet solutions and we have held talks with over eight leading firms," vice-president (hosting division) iasiaworks Sanjay Dani told PTI here. The first such venture should be announced within the next month itself, he said adding that Internet solutions would be the focus of the US major's first investment phase here since setting up data centres typically took longer.
"We are looking at solutions company acquisitions with an investment of up to $10 million at present," he said adding iasiaworks was also holding talks with some leading ISPs for setting up data centres but these were still in preliminary stages. Dani said setting up a data centre from scratch took between $10-20 million investment and iasiaworks had `moderately deep pockets' to fund such setups.
