Dhanwanthari offers Ayurvedic treatment online

KA Martin
Kochi, March 10: The 70-year-old Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala has begun offering Ayurvedic consultations on the Internet making it the first major e-venture for the multi-crore Ayurvedic business in Kerala. Although the leading Ayurverdic medicine suppliers and treatment providers in Kerala have all put up their websites already, the Dhanwanthari venture is seen as as a step that will make the company steal a march over its rivals.

A spokesman for the Rs 1-crore Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala told The Financial Express on Wednesday that the company's site dhanwanthari.org has logged significant increase in hits since the service was launched and looks set to make its presence felt on the worldwide web through a variety of innovative services that will be on offer.

For starters, the Dhanwanthari site is a platform for online consultation with a panel of qualified and experienced Ayurvedic doctors. Initially, the patients seeking medical advice will have to access the site and then answer a set of questions that are provided there. A panel of doctors will prescribe medicines and treatments based on the interactions they have with the patient.

During the last two months during which the service has been available on the Internet, serious enquiries are pouring in, said the company spokesman. He said that Dhanwanthari is treating 300 patients online. In some cases the medicines are also being directly provided from Dhanwanthari itself, he added. The Dhanwanthari site has been designed and put up by the Kochi-based software solutions developers and web designers Tree Solutions and has been well-received by netizens. The site is well linked to the popular Kerala tourism and cultural sites, the spokesman said.

He said that with the battle for the Ayurvedic market hotting up, the Internet reach of the company will complement its reach in brick and mortar distribution network in Kerala. Dhanwanthari is a well-known brand for quality medicines.
