Mumbai, March 10: Call it multi-level marketing on the Net. Bangalore-based Select Technologies, the network technology product arm of the Taiwan-based $3 billion G Premjee Group plans to recruit ``Internet consultants''-who only need to know how to click a mouse and of course, hire more consultants.Select Tech, in association with an Internet Service Provider (ISP), will soon launch a modem packet bundled with a Net account. The ISP will be a nationwide operator and the package will be offered at Rs 4,500, inclusive of a 56k Ace modem, which costs around Rs 4000, and a 50-hour package normally costing Rs 900. It will also include a training kit. Select Technologies markets the Ace brand of connectivity products, manufactured by group company, GP Technologies, in India.
The consultants have to approach the potential customers especially the home segment who want a Net connection but do not know how to install and operate it. "We are planning to recruit around 40 people in every city who in turn can recruit more people. There will be a support centre in these cities for the consultants," Select president Byju Pillai said. The consultants will earn a commission on every sale, plus an incentive on every sale registered by a person they have recruited.
Pillai expects to reach out to a wide group of consultants, from a housewife to a college student. "We will give a required training to the consultants," Pillai said.
Select has set aside around Rs 2 crore for the promotion budget for Ace modems in India.
