Digital enters European market, to set up branch in UK

Mini K Joseph
Bangalore, Mar 13: Digital Equipment (India) Ltd has decided to expand its global network by setting up a new branch office in UK. The company also will open an additional software development centre in Bangalore which is expected to be operational by March.

According to the company's president and chief executive officer Som Mittal, the move was part of Digital India's strategy to expand its global network and increase its infrastructure and marketing strength.

He said the office in London would the first step in the company's foray into the Pan-European markets and would be followed by the opening of other offices across Europe. The UK office would be responsible for business development, frontline customer interaction and marketing activities, he said. Mittal said Digital would concentrate on winning business for multiple divisions of the company besides building up its customer base with larger organisations in the telecom and systems integration sectors in the UK. ``It is Digital India's aim to be aleading global software and service provider. Europe as a key market, forms an integral part of our vision. The London office is strategically aligned with our approach worldwide of strengthening our infrastructure capability besides being close to our customers,'' Mittal said.
