Constitution goes online with Webduniya's Samvidhan.com

New Delhi, April 5: And now one has the Indian Constitution going online! Anew Hindi Website, Samvidhan.com, was launched by Prime Minister Atal BihariVajpayee on Tuesday.

The site, launched by the Hindi portal Webdunia.com, has been created tocommemorate 50 years of the Constitution. It consists in addition to thelatest original text of the Indian Constitution, activities of theConstituent Assembly, thoughts of known personalities on the implementationof Constitution, procedure of its amendment and details of the amendmentsmade so far. The site also has the facility to send views on review ofConstitution and related aspects and take advice of experts in 10 Indianlanguages.

According to Webdunia promoter Vinay Chhajlani, the site is very simple touse and does not require a separate keyboard of any particular language. Ithas a multi-utility search facility on the original text of the Constitutionwhich makes it more attractive for reference and research for students andteachers, experts and advocates. He plans to make the original text ofConstitution available in other Indian languages too.

``Samvidhan.com has a panel of councilors comprising eminent Indians andexperts of the Constitution and its interpretations. An individual inpressing need of legal help can seek free online guidance from the expertslike former Rajasthan high court judge Gumanmal Lodha, frmer Madhya PradeshVidhan Sabha speaker Rajendra Prasad Shukla and former Lok Sabha secretaryRC Bhardwaj,'' he said. Webdunia, launched in September 1999, has receivedventure capital funding of $2.8 million in February 2000 from WaldenInternational and NRI Prakash Bhalerao. The company plans to receive asecond round of funding soon for which it has received permission from theForeign Investment Promotion Board.
