Arambagh Hatcheries automated plant to kick off production

Calcutta, April 5: Arambagh Hatcheries, the retail chain of ready-to-eat and dressed chicken, has set up a fully mechanised processing plant that is scheduled to begin commercial production this month. The first of its kind in eastern region, the plant has been set up at Illambazar in Birbhum district. Trial runs have already been conducted.The plant will produce 20,000 bars or 30 tonnes per day. The Illambazar unit will boost the company's expansion plans in neighbouring states, a company official said. At present, the Arambagh retail chain is confined to West Bengal. Claiming that the plant is the first of its kind in India, Prasun Kumar Roy, the promoter of Arambagh Hatcheries, said: "There are five chicken processing plants in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh but this is the most advanced one." Arambagh is setting up the plant in technical collaboration with Meyn Inc. of Holland. The plant costs Rs 8 crore. A major portion of the project is funded internally and the rest is loan from funding agencies. He said the plant will be part of Arambagh's "Mid Division" project of Rs 40 crore.
