Indonesia, Philippines demand may push groundnut exports
REUTERSÎNew Delhi, April 5: Good demand from Indonesia and the Philippines is likely to push up India's groundnut exports to about 1,20,000 tonnes in 2000/2001 (April-March) from 1,00,000 tonnes in 1999/2000, a leading trade official said on Wednesday.``Export prospects for our groundnuts this year are good,'' said director of Abhijat-Dipak Holdings Pvt Ltd, Abhijat Tanna, leading Bombay-based groundnut exporter. ``The demand from the Philippines and Indonesia for our groundnuts is increasing,'' he added. Tanna said India had recently sold groundnut consignments to Indonesia at $550 per tonne (C&F). Traders expressed concern that European demand for Indian groundnuts was falling because of their strict norms about the presence of aflatoxin, a potentially cancer-causing toxin produced by mould.
