Delhigossip.com promotors to become angel investors

Pummy Kaul
New Delhi, May 2: DG Infotechnologies Pvt Ltd, the company which is going to launch Delhi's first lifestyle and gossip portal-delhigossip.com-tomorrow, plans to launch an angel investment company six months from now. The proposed `mega' company will be promoted by three promoters including Karan Chanana, director of Rs 200 crore Amira Foods and Bobby Gupta, an entrepreneur and a business strategy advisor to Swapsolution.com, a US-based firm. Chanana and Gupta-who have joined hands to form DG Infotechnologies- refused to divulge the third promoter's name.

According to Chanana, the proposed angel investment company will essentially route investments into various start-ups and portals. ``We're looking at developing Internet ideas in the country,'' said Chanana.

The company will soon launch a C2C site and also acquire a couple of Website developing agencies. Gupta, however, refused to divulge names and financial details of the companies.

In its first Website-targeted at the Net savvy diaspora between the ages of 15 to 50-DG Infotechnologies is making an investment of Rs 4 crore in the next six months. Of this, about Rs 1 crore will be spent on an outdoor and print ad campaign. Thereafter, it may go for venture funding. As for its revenue model, delhigossip.com plans to provide a link to various other portals and thereby give discounts to its preferred members. ``Once we have built and strengthened our captive audience, we will leverage this community to the corporate world and bring our users the best of discounts, deals, contests and scoops,'' Chanana said.

The promoters of the Website also plan to market the site to NRIs by tying up with other portals and by advertising in magazines and journals catering to NRIs.

After the launch of delhigossip.com, Chanana plans to create separate Websites for all major cities of the country.
