Chennai, May 3: Chennai-based CG Maersk Information Technologies Ltd (a joint venture between Crompton Greaves of the Thapar group and Maersk Data of the AP Moller group) have signed an MoU with International Consulting Network (ICN) of Denmark wherein the former will develop a second generation e-commerce solution for the latter. The product will roll out by the end of the year, following which ICN will help in selling the same in the European market.Addressing a media meet here on Wednesday, CG Maersk President and CEO Peter Plantener said that the second generation e-commerce products offered all the facilities of the first generation, but provided automated work flows to such an extent that human intervention was almost nil. The inventory is managed real time and is well suited for B2B commerce.
The first generation e-commerce stops with using the Internet with an interface to inventory and accounting, enables simple order processing and ensures confidentiality, authenticity and integrity-but is more applicable to B2C commerce.
CG Maersk had a revenue of $2.5 million last year, over a period of nine months. It has a number of products developed in kernel form, which would be finally customised to shorten delivery periods. ICN has built a successful distributorship for world renowned products like CISCO routers, TellaEPABXs, IBM Websphere etc. It has operations in USA, Denmark, Belgium and UK but is rapidly expanding in the rest of Europe having offices in all European countries.
Europe had lost out on e-commerce growth compared to the US, but the second generation e-com product is expected to give the industry a lift. Mobile computing devices are expected to get more popular compared to the computer in Europe, which would give such products a good market, ICN CEO Frank Ramsing said. ICN is actively planning to go into developing services for this segment.
