Mumbai, May 3: About 200 years ago, the son of a porcelain-painter in Meissen, Germany, Samuel Hahnemann revolutionised the world of medicine by inaugurating a new era of medical thought called "Organon". If Hahnemann were alive today, he would be delighted to see the efforts of the infotech-age votaries of homoeopathy to bring this science closer to the layman.A group of homoeopathy doctors in Mumbai has recently set up a one-stop site in homoeopathy called newindiapharmac.com which intends to give "anything in homoeopathy". Newindiapharmac.com is the brainchild of P Jose Nelapana, a homoeopathy consultant. The aim: to bring the homoeopathic fraternity closer through the medium of the Internet.Says Nelapana, newindiapharmac.com intends to fill a void in the homoeopathic world, a void created due to lack of awareness amongst the practitioners on one side and the students and the lay people on the other side. A void which very often leads to misrepresentations of facts.
For example, what is the need for homoeopathy? How does it fit into the medical world? Does it complement the action of existing systems or does it treat unbiasedly using its own principles?Such doubts and concerns force people to believe false rumours like steroids are being used in homoeopathy. "We at newindiapharmac are trying for a level playing field so that homoeopathy should get the place and respect it rightly deserves, not only in India but also abroad," adds Jose.
The site provides access to a database on homoeopathy pharmacies and over 2000 doctors in Maharashtra providing addresses, phone numbers, list of institutions, manufacturers, section for cases and articles by doctors.A special feature of the site is the separate section for colleges with regular updates on the number of seats per college, hostel facilities, hospital standards. According to Nelapana, the site stands apart from other homoeopathy sites. It has exhaustive sections like pharmacies, doctors, colleges, cases, articles, manufacturers, editors views, archives, etc.
The site has begun advertising in print to a limited extent and on an average claims to get around 30-50 hits a day.
