Tata's rural vehicle in offing

Pune, May 3: There is competition for Mahindra's Marshall on the dust tracks on rural India. Tata Sumo is flexing its muscles. Spacio, the lower-end version of Sumo, is expected to hit the roads soon. Aimed at the rural market, the Spacio is a multi-utility vehichle built on the 407 truck engine.The Sumo was introduced in 1994 which was followed by the Deluxe version in 1997, the ambulance and taxi models too are available in the market. The sales of multi-utility segment fell from 31,000 units last year to 28,000 in 1999-2000 mainly because of a dip in sales of Safari and Sierra.
