Bajaj Auto April sales up 18% 

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
New Delhi, May 3: Bajaj Auto has recorded an 18 per cent growth in sales of its vehicles in April 2000 at 114,000 units as against 97,000 in the same month a year ago. However, production witnessed a 3 per cent decline at 113,000 units as against 116,000 units a year ago, the company announced in its website -- www.Bajajauto.Com.

The total sales during the month includes the vehicles provided as completely knocked down (CKD) kits to group company - Maharashtra Scooters Ltd (MSL).

Sales, excluding the CKD kits supplied to MSL but including the completely built units sold by MSL, for the month stood at 111,000 units, up 16 per cent from 96,000 units a year ago.

Sales during April was the highest ever for any April.

The company further stated that annual results would be announced after a board meeting on May 16.

The board of directors of the company has already announced a 100 per cent interim dividend for the 1999-2000 fiscal. It has also decided to buy back up to 15 per cent of the paid up share capital of the company at a maximum price of Rs 450 per share. The buy-back will be financed from surplus funds of the company. The proposal will be put up for the approval of the shareholders of the company at the forthcoming annual general meeting.
