Hyderabad, May 10: The Electronic Corporation of India Ltd, a central government PSU has decided to enter commercial IT education in a big way, using the franchisee networking route, said V H Ron, chairman and managing director of the company.Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Ron said, the existing computer education division is rechristened as `ECIT' with a distinct logo to position it in the market place. "So far, ECIL has been in high-end software application development and training and now it intends to take up commercial IT education".
According to Ron, the corporation has targeted to achieve about Rs 100 crore turnover in the first three years with a market share of 10 per cent. At present, ECIT is billing about Rs 2 to 3 crore.
Ron said that the corporation proposes to invest about Rs 10 crore in this new venture in a bid to establish a `Center of Excellence' for the development of course curriculum. ECIT has plans to start high-ended embedded software and increase the volume of VLSI design courses. Further, the institute also has initiated talks with global leaders in IT education such as Microsoft, Oracle to have joint programmes and business tie-ups, Ron said, besides entering MoUs with Osmania and Central University of Hyderabad for awarding degrees to the successful students.
Coming to franchisees, ECIT has already entered into an agreement with BDPS for a period of three years, which will introduce the ECIL's course in 250 centers through out the 10 states where it has presence. Further, ECIT is looking out for franchisees in the unrepresented states like, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal, said C D Murty executive director of ECIL.
