Sun launches Solaris 8 Operating Environment
New Delhi, May 10: Sun Microsystems on Wednesday unveiled the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, the first to satisfy the convergent requirements of enterprises adapting to the Internet age and of dotcoms adopting the disciplines of the data center, according to a press release on Wednesday.Sun also announced free access to the Solaris source and end-user binary code to foster innovation and ubiquity. The Solaris 8 Operating Environment is available for both the SPARC and Intel platforms. In addition to the operating system software, the Solaris Operating Environment includes acomprehensive co-package of software from Sun, iPlanet e-commerce solutions, Oracle and others.
