New Delhi, May 10: The Reserve Bank of India has asked IndusInd Bank and HDFC Bank to set up more branches in the rural and semi-urban areas to comply with the statutory requirement of having at least 25 per cent of their branches at such centres.Among the old private sector banks, Bharat Overseas Bank has been told to open more branches in rural and semi-urban areas. Development Credit Bank Limited, which was a cooperative bank before its conversion into a private sector commercial bank, has been given time upto March 31, 2001 to set up more branches in rural and semi-urban areas.
The other commercial bank which has not complied with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) norms of having at least 25 per cent of the branches in rural and semi-urban area is SBI Commercial and International Bank.
