Derivatives trading fails to kick off
The quiet race between the two premier stock exchanges the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to kick off derivatives trading in the country has acquired a new dimension as both claim they were awaiting Sebi's final clearance.

Gilt funds shift assets to medium-end maturities
Unsure about interest rate movements in the immediate future, gilt funds have by and large shifted their assets from the longer-end to the medium-end for the purpose of "parking" their funds and to take advantage of arbitrage opportunities between call rates and gilt yields, which are about 100 basis points higher.

Shares slip after Wall Street slide
Asian share markets were mostly lower Wednesday following the lead of US stocks amid a lack of local leads to drive buying interest. Share prices in Tokyo fell 0.8% on Wall Street's decline and volatility linked to the expiry of monthly options contracts later this week, brokers said.
