Bangalore, May 12: Bangalore-based start-up Kalki Communication Technologies Pvt Ltd has drawn up strategic investment plans as part of its growth initiatives. To this end, the company is parting with 24 per cent of its equity to a VC fund to raise $4 million towards its expansion activities. The company's managing director Prasanth Gopalakrishnan told eFE that they were at an advanced stage of discussions with both domestic and overseas VC funds, and the first tranche of $1 million was expected to come in by May end. On the break-up of the investment outlay, Gopalakrishnan said out of the funds a fourth each would go into R&D projects, enhancing development facilities, marketing and promotional activities and setting up offices in the US and Europe respectively.
The company currently focuses on providing complete enterprise solutions under three business groups - computing, communication & networking and control systems/turn-key projects - to provide seamless integration and connectivity solutions. "Our core focus is on providing diversified technology solutions for convergence across all platforms, solutions and applications. We also develop specific solutions based on standard protocol stacks developed by us," he said.
As for new focus initiatives, Kalki was looking at actively promoting its recruitment data management software -- Resume Manager, which facilitates complete compilation, sorting and management of recruitment information Gopalakrishnan said. The company currently has close to 50 installations of Resume Manager (priced at Rs 18,000 each), and is looking at tapping the online recruitment portal market in India and overseas. "We are also set to promote the product in the corporate segment, besides recruitment portals.
The Web-enabled version will also hit the market shortly," he said. With regard to the overseas business model (US and Europe) for the product, the company was considering launching an ASP model, or spinning the product off as a separate entity, he added. Kalki is also seeking strategic tie-ups with large IT companies to develop technology solutions based on the their products. To this end, the company was currently in talks with four large industry players in India and the US and the partnerships were likely to be finalised by June, he said. Kalki was also in the process of beefing up its team of developers from the current 40 to close to 150 by end-2000, Gopalakrishnan said. As for revenues, the company was eyeing a Rs 10 crore target this year, compared to Rs 1 crore in the last fiscal, he added.
