Sibabrata Das
Mumbai: Star World will bring to life the English monarchy when it premiers the Earl of Wessex's docu-drama series Crown & Country in an hour-long special on May 18, 2000, at 5.30 p.m. The repeat telecast will be aired at 9 p.m the same day. Following episodes will be telecast every Sunday starting May 21, at 2.30 p.m.

"The programme will provide Star TV viewers a unique insight into British history," said Star TV chief executive officer Peter Mukerjea.Edward Wessex, who is in Mumbai to officially launch and promote his new television production, said Crown & Country deals with intrigue and treason, myths and miracles, heroism and tragedy.

The serial visits St Paul's Cathedral, the world's oldest naval base in Portsmouth, Sandringham, the ancient Saxon capital Winchester and other historical sites. Edward reveals the stories of his ancestors, the great warriors and leaders of the past and secrets that made them legendary figures.

Star will have special airing of Windsor Restored on May 18 which exclusively uncovers the story of the five-year restoration of 105 rooms of Windsor Castle, in the aftermath of the fire that took three days and 200 firemen to extinguish in 1992. In a compelling account of the fireand the aftermath, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York give their separate accounts of the devastation caused by the fire and how the restoration was effected.

"Crown & Country has been aired in Channel 3 in the UK and enjoys a 25-30 per cent audience share. The serial is being broadcast in 50 countries," said Edward Wessex. Though he has produced 50 hours of programming, Wessex said this was the longest running programme on air.
